Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Toorlisnamore

Described in 1977 as a ringfort that was recently bulldozed when the heavy scrub and the bank enclosing the monument had been removed and the interior has been scraped over during the removal of the scrub (SMR File). An earlier site report from 1977 described the upstanding monument as situated on a small hillock in undulating countryside with extensive views to NE, E and S. The monument which was then covered in scrub vegetation consisted of a small oval-shaped area (diam. c. 33m NNW-SSE) defined by a low bank of earth and stone with no evidence of an external fosse. The bank was composed of large stones and boulders with a thin covering of earth and grass. This enclosing earth and stone bank may originally have been a stone wall. An entrance gap (Wth 3.1m) in the bank was visible at E. The terminals of the bank on either side of the entrance gap were faced with large stones set on edge.
