What is recorded here

Kednaminsha is the origin of the ancient name for the area, meaning the hollow place where the fairies gather. Two ringforts once stood north of the crossroads, visible on McCrea’s 1793 map but now lost to time and terrain. They may have been human homes or fairy forts, boundaries between the seen and hidden worlds. The land itself remembers what people forgot, holding the shape of lives no longer named.

Two earthwork enclosures are shown on McCrea’s map of Co. Monaghan (1793) N of Kednaminsha cross-roads, in the angle between the two roads. The precise location of both features is not known. Date of upload: 14 April 2011
