What is recorded here

A ghost fort in Ardlow, County Cavan. The land is flat, but a small rise holds the forgotten shape. People walked past it for centuries, breathing on glass jars or dropping coins into darkness. The fort never showed itself, yet it remained the reason the field felt different.

Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated on a slight natural rise in otherwise relatively level ground. Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
