What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Turin, County Cavan: a raised circular area about fifty-eight metres across, enclosed by a much-denuded low earthen bank with some remains of a fosse identifiable from east to south. The original entrance is no longer recognisable, which is fitting: the place keeps its shape but refuses to explain itself. People may have lived there, marked it, feared it or simply passed around it. Whatever they did, the earth remembered the circle and let the details blur.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 58m) enclosed by a much-denuded low earthen bank with some remains of a fosse identifiable from E-SE-S. Original entrance not recognisable.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
