What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Tullybrick is a substantial oval earthwork about forty metres long, with a buried entrance at the southeast and a ditch visible only along part of its edge. People may have lived there, or it may have belonged to the fairies, but the earth still holds the shape of a home.
Raised oval area (int. dims. c. 40m NE-SW; 34m NW-SE) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a fosse identifiable only from SSW-W-N and infilled elsewhere. An earlier report (OPW 1969) recorded that the original entrance was at SE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Tullybrick is a likely early-medieval defensive or agricultural site, characterized by a raised oval enclosure with a bank and fosse. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy folklore, often regarded as the homes of supernatural beings.
