What is recorded here

Fairy forts are earthen rings, not magical palaces. This one in Tully, County Cavan, is a broad shallow circle with a faint ditch and no obvious gate, the kind of shape people invented stories for because it refused to explain itself.

An earlier report (OPW 1970) described a raised circular area (int. diam. 39m) enclosed by a bank which has been levelled, except at E where it is incorporated into the field boundary, and an external fosse. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
