Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Tullacondra

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

The first draft is not a story because it still sounds like an instruction about a story. I need to remove that warning and write the place itself.
In pasture, on W-facing slope. Circular area (29m N-S; 27m E-W) defined by two earthen banks with intervening fosse, internal fosse and external fosse. Inner fosse (int. D 1m) survives ESE->ENE; may imply former presence of now levelled inner bank. Bank one (H 0.9m) overgrown and broken to ESE. Intervening fosse (D 0.1m) waterlogged to N and W. Bank two (max. H 1.2m) heavily overgrown; break (Wth 1m) to ENE. External flat-bottomed fosse (D 0.7m) survives NNW->E; not visible SE->SW due to overgrowth. Fulacht fiadh (CO024-09101-) immediately outside fort to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
