Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Scarnageeragh or Emyvale

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Scarnageeragh holds a thirty-five-metre earthen ring on a hillock west of Emyvale, old enough to predate human memory in local thought. The field bank cuts through its southern edge, marking how lived land has repeatedly rewritten the fortress shape. Fairy fort is the name people gave it when reason ran out, which is often the truest measure of a place.
Situated on top of a hillock just W of Emyvale. A slightly raised circular feature (diam. c. 35m) and defined by a slight bank is visible on LiDAR images (2018). It is overlain by an E-W field bank just S of its centre, and it was first reported by Enda Fields. See the attached view from LIDAR Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 26 August 2021
