Fairy fort in Sandylane, County Limerick: a 20-metre earthen ring on a damp southeast slope, its entrance a broken gap where the bank thins. Cattle have trod the inside flat and scrub chokes the edge, yet the circle still reads as a threshold rather than a boundary. People may have lived there before forgetting, or the fairies may have taken the houses and left the hole behind. Either way the fort keeps its shape, waiting for someone steady enough to walk the whole ring and remember what it held.

Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope in poorly-drained pasture. The monument is largely obscured by scrub vegetation. It consists of a roughly circular area (20m NE-SW; 18m N-S) enclosed by an earthen bank (int. H 0.25m; Wth 1.1m; ext. H 0.7m). There is a dip in the bank at WSW (Wth 4.5m). The interior is uneven and slopes down to the SE. The interior and the enclosing bank have been poached by cattle. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 20 June 2013
