Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rooves Beg

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Rooves Beg: a 30.5m earthen ring, 3m high, with a shallow outside ditch and a southern entrance, sitting atop a hill in open pasture. It is the kind of place people have long refused to explain, as if the earth itself had drawn a circle and waited to be noticed.
In pasture, atop hill. Circular area (diam. 30.5m) defined by earthen bank (max. H 3m) with external fosse (D 0.7m). Entrance to S. Surrounding field fences removed. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
