Old Mansion Ho

Described by Gillman (1893, 178) as 'a fortified manor-house built by the head of an important branch of the Muskerry MacCarthys, Teige of Aglish...now a bare patch of meadow'. Area now flooded due to Lee Valley Hydro-electric Scheme. Healy (1988, 14) is doubtful that Mac Carthys ever built here and suggests it was house built by Kingstons in 18th century. Old Mansion Ho, Aglish was built by Teige of Aglish, head of an important branch of the Muskerry MacCarthys, in the late medieval period. It is remembered as a fortified manor-house that has since been lost to flooding from the Lee Valley Hydro-electric project.
