What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Rathmale: a 29m earthen ring on a slight west-facing slope, fifty metres from another ringfort. Its bank still rises ninety centimetres outside, and a faint outer ditch shows at the north in satellite images. Cattle may have trod it flat, or people may have lived inside it before fields and stories changed the shape of the land.
In pasture, on slight W facing slope, 50m NW of ringfort (LI012-019----). The 1840 OS 6-inch map depicts a field boundary to the immediate E that respects the curve of the enclosing element and suggests a possible outer ditch. Present remains consist of a raised roughly circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 29m) enclosed by an earthen bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.9m; base Wth. 3.6m). The interior is level. A field boundary running N-S intersects the bank at E. Google Earth orthoimage taken 25/03/2017 shows a well defined enclosing element with traces of an outer ditch clearly visible at N.
