Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rathcoursey East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Two earthen rings stood in Rathcoursey before destruction erased them. One hid three flint arrowheads, proof that human hands shaped the soil before forgetting removed the shape.
According to Power (1940, 102) 'there were formerly two lioses (see CO076-127----) in Rathcoursey but both have been destroyed long since. In one of these....three flint arrowheads were found'. Exact locations not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
