Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rahyconor

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No fairy ever flew there, though people believed it. A human hand built the fort, perhaps during the medieval period, and the earth has kept its shape ever since. The gate faced east, inviting sunrise or trouble depending on who entered.
On a hillock in grassland. Circular rath (diam. 45m), in fair condition, defined by a bank and external fosse with traces of a possible outer bank at W. The fosse is extant from NW through N to SW; elsewhere it survives as a vegetation band. A gap at E appears to be original.
