What is recorded here

No visible entrance or owner remains, only a broken earthen ring and a shallow modern scar cutting across its west side. It is not a display piece or a new invention, but a changed old place whose boundary has been forgotten or erased. What is missing is not the same as never having existed.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Sub-circular area (int. dims. 27.5m E-W, 24.5m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (Wth 6.5m, H 0.3m internally, 1.4m externally) with vague traces of external fosse (Wth c. 6m, D c. 0.2m), except from S-W where a large field drain has been cut at the foot of the bank. Bank gapped in several places, though ancient entrance not recognisable. A rectangular depression (L 12m, Wth 5m, D 0.5m) leads from the W side of the bank into the interior, and appears to be modern.
