What is recorded here
Omard holds a forty-four-metre fairy fort where a deep waterlogged ditch surrounds a raised earthen chamber. Men may have lived inside that quiet circle before forgetting the name of the doors.
Raised circular area (int. diam. 44m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a wide, deep, partly waterlogged fosse which has been infilled from NNW-N. An earlier report (OPW 1970) suggested that the original entrance may have been at E.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
