What is recorded here
Half a million years of human life and memory are compressed into this small wooden circle. Two banks, one gate gap, one shadow line, and a floor marked by older walls still standing beneath the soil. The fort is not complete, but it is clear enough to enter. What is missing is not an excuse to stop seeing; it is the invitation to keep watching.
In wooded area, on E-facing slope, in area of outcropping limestone. Circular area (diam. 29m) enclosed by two concentric earth-and-stone banks. Inner bank (int. H 0.25m; ext. H 1.6m), best preserved along S arc, lowers and becomes scarp-like NW->NNE (H 0.9m); dip in bank at ESE (Wth 3.2m). Much-denuded outer bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.55m), c. 1.5m distant from inner bank, is overlain by field wall WSW->NW. Interior, covered by mature deciduous trees, has lower N third separated from remainder by scarped edge (H 1m; Wth 6.1m); loose stones scattered long top of scarp are probably remains of a collapsed dry-stone wall.
