Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Mullaghnaneane

Situated on a slight rise, on slight SW-facing slope, in gently undulating pasture. Raised circular area (diam. 23m) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 4.7m int. H 0.2m). No fosse is visible at ground level. From SW-NE, the bank is absent and the site is defined by a scarp. Occasional large blocks of limestone (up to 0.5m square) are located at the base of the bank and scarped edge that seem to be placed as rough revetting. A rectangular quarry hole (6m N-S; 3m E-W; D 0.4m) is located in the interior of the rath on the E side. A circular annex is located on the SW consisting of a roughly crescent-shaped raised area (N-S 16m; E-W 12m) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.95m) E-S and by a scarp (ext. H 1.2m) S-N. From N-NE, the edge of the annex is defined by a gentle slope up into the interior of the rath. From NE-E, the edge of the annex is defined by the bank of the rath. The interior of the annex is 1.4m lower than the interior of the rath.
