What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Monascallaghan: a vanished earthen ring on pasture above bogland, drawn as a fort on old maps but no longer visible to walk past. That disappearance is the strange part. A fort can be built, forgotten, farmed smooth and still occupy the land, watched only by grass and rain.
In pasture overlooking bogland from S-W-NE. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 and 1883 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. Not visible at ground level.
