Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lobinstown

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are no longer built, but the old ones still stand: round, shallow, hidden in field and woodland. Witches may have danced inside them, yet people also lived there, loved there, and disappeared from the world entirely. The chamber is already cut. The chamber is already guarded. The chamber is already waiting for the right candidate. To enter a fairy fort is to stop being the hero of its own story. That is why so many people walk past them with a familiar itch in their chest.
Located on a hilltop in an undulating landscape. The cropmark of a circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by a single fosse feature that is only traceable SW-N-SE is visible on Google Earth (29/06/2018). It is also visible on OSI images (1995, 2018) and it was first reported by Anthony Murphy.
