Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lissamota

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible trace remains of the Lissamota ringfort, yet the 1841 survey marked a forty-metre embankment where pasture now holds the sky. The earth swallowed the stone and timber, leaving only a faint dip in the grass and a warning in local memory. What the field erased, the story preserved: a circular home, a living boundary, and the risk of forgetting that soil can take what it wants.
In pasture, on gentle N-facing slope into marshy ground. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on 1841 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
