Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisnacreevy

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible entrance or interior remains. What is left is a shallow circular scar in the hillside, partly erased by pasture and field boundaries. The fairies may have built it, or people may have built it and forgotten. Either way, the ground still holds the shape of a door that no longer opens.
On an E-facing slope in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. c. 35m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 2.6m; H 0.3m) with an external fosse (Wth 1.8m; D 0.3-0.4m). From S-N-NE the bank and fosse have been modified and incorporated into a partially levelled field boundary. A break (Wth 1m) in the bank at NE may mark the original entrance. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011
