Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisduff (ardagh By., Ardagh East Ed)

Fairy fort in Lisduff, County Longford: an oval rath, 49 by 47 metres, with a 4.3-metre earth-and-stone bank and a 4.4-metre-wide, 1-metre-deep outer ditch. Much of the south and east ditch remains wide and deep; the north and west have been taken into a field boundary, and the true entrance has disappeared. In wet pasture the ring reads less like a ruin than like a threshold, the kind of place where people may have kept cattle, hidden in storms, or simply refused to leave because the ground felt alive.
