Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Linfield

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortons and others may have lived inside the oval before memory faded, but the fairies kept the name. The scarped edge and waterlogged fosse still mark the boundary between human forgetfulness and fairy patience. Briars cover the interior now, hiding whatever the fort protected or hoarded.
In pasture, on a gentle NNE-facing slope. Oval area (c. 35m N-S; c. 45m E-W) defined by scarped edge (Wth 1.4m; H 1.25m) with external waterlogged fosse (Wth 6m; D 2m). Field drain extends out from fosse at NW. Interior covered in briars and scrub. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 6 December 2013
