Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Leitrim (granard By., Granard Rural Ed)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible entrance remains on the 25.5m clay ring, though a buried ditch still shadows its western base. Cattle graze the pasture above it while the hidden trench waits beneath the grass. The fort has lost its doorway but keeps its shape, turning an ordinary field into a room with no address.
On a low rise in undulating pasture with a stream to the NW. A raised circular area (diam. 25.5m) defined by a scarp (H 1.05-1.5m) except at S where it has been levelled. At the base of the scarp from WSW-N-E is a berm (Wth 2.5-4m), which probably marks the line of an infilled fosse. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F.
