Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on a slight rise, in rough wet pasture, with restricted views. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as an oval-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1979 as a much disturbed roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 40m) defined by a low scarp and faint traces of a shallow external fosse which are both poorly preserved. There is no indication of an entrance. The interior rises irregularly towards the centre and a house site (WM030-012001-) is visible in the W quadrant. A modern field fence runs roughly N-S across the perimeter and part of the interior at W. Another old field fence runs ENE-WSW just outside the perimeter at S. Monument is visible today as an oval-shaped earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. Date of upload: 07 November 2019
