What is recorded here

Knockenagh South once held a circular earthen ringfort marked on 1841 and 1914 maps, but a quarry extended northward and erased every trace. The fort may have sheltered people, marked territory or simply given the landscape a shape worthy of remembering. Its disappearance is not a loss of fact but a reminder that human life depends on the continued existence of the things it loves.

Marked on the 1841-42 and 1914 OS maps, this circular enclosure was situated immediately N of a quarry. Today it has been completely levelled and the quarry has been extended so that no surface trace remains. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
