Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed because people stopped remembering the hands that built them. In Kippagh North, a circular earthwork about thirty-eight metres across sat on an east-facing slope above the Awbeg River, visible on maps from 1842 to the 1930s before ploughs and wheels smoothed it into uneven pasture. The fairies never lived there; people did, and forgetfulness turned their address into a joke.
