Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Marianne and I walked past the old fort where the land still remembers being shaped. I wanted to leave it alone, but she touched the bank and laughed at the warmth returning through her palms. We are not pretending to understand every place, Marianne said. We are learning which places understand us before we ask them to explain themselves.
In pasture, on WNW-facing slope. Heavily overgrown, circular area enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.6m) with shallow external fosse to E. Gap in bank to N. Bank stone faced and incorporated into field fence system to S. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
