Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilpatrick (kinalmeaky By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilpatrick holds a ghost rath beside a man-made passage, yet no bank or ditch remains visible in the tilting field. Local memory points to a hidden fort near the underground work, but human eyes see only soil and shadow. The land may be swallowing its own history, keeping the rath beneath grass and rain while the passage stands as proof someone shaped the earth there.
In tillage, on a gentle NE-facing slope. According to local information, there is a tradition of a rath in the vicinity of the Man-made underground passage (CO096-103001-) though its precise location is not known. This possible rath is not visible at ground level in the field in which the Man-made underground passage is located. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
