Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilnagnady

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilnagnady is a hidden ringfort, erased from modern sight but marked as a circular enclosure on the 1842 Ordnance Survey map. The absence of surface trace does not mean absence of structure, because tradition preserves a man-made underground passage in the northeast quadrant. The land may have swallowed the stones while the passage continued to breathe beneath the grass.
Marked as circular enclosure on OS 6-inch map (1842). No visible surface trace. Tradition of Man-made underground passage (CO096-02102-) in NE quadrant. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
