Mysterious Fort: Four forts claimed in Kilmaclenine, but only three have been found. The missing fourth may still hide beneath grass, rock or forgotten field edge.

'There are four forts' in the townland, according to the OS Field Book of 1840 (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 313). Only three 'forts' have been accounted for (CO024-050---; CO024-051---; CO024-05603-); the location of the fourth remains unknown. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
