Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killanafinch (Kilkeary parish) is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Killanafinch (Kilkeary parish), County Tipperary, Ireland. It occupies the southwest-facing slope of a hill in pasture. The platform measures about 29 metres from north to south. Traces of an enclosing bank remain, largely reduced to a downslope scarp.
Situated on the SW-facing slope of a hill, in pasture. A platform ringfort (diam. c. 29m N-S) with traces of an enclosing bank (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.55-1.5m), largely reduced to a scarp downslope. There is a slight suggestion of an outer fosse (Wth 3.5m; D 0.4m) in the SW quadrant and a small clearing at NNW revealed a broad, shallow, U-shaped fosse. The interior and most of the exterior, except at SW, is heavily overgrown with brambles and scrub.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
