Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killabunane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Killabunane hides a forgotten ringfort beneath pasture on an elevation above the Sheen River. The earth has swallowed the boundary, leaving only a gentle rise where human hands once shaped the valley. That disappearance is not a failure of evidence; it is a reminder that landscapes absorb the places they contain.
In pasture, on an elevation in the valley of the Sheen River. B. Ó Cíobháin recorded the placename 'Páirc an Leasa' at this location (SMR file). This possible rath is not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
