Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Jordansquarter, Kilnaneave is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Jordansquarter, Kilnaneave, County Tipperary, Ireland. The site sits on the gradual northeast slope of a hill in pasture. A curving field boundary marks the former enclosure, while slight traces of a fosse remain visible.
Situated on the gradual NE slope of a hill, in pasture. Depicted on the 1st (1843) ed. OS 6-inch map as an irregular enclosure which appears to be truncated by a NW-SE field boundary along the SW quadrant and as a circular enclosure on the 1904 ed. with a townland boundary along the SW quadrant. Although levelled a curving field boundary indicates the former presence of the site and there are slight traces of a fosse. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
