Fairy forts are human inventions. They are places where people stopped believing they understood the world, and invented a world that did not need to be understood.

Situated on a natural shelf on E facing slope of rising ground in upland area. Large circular area (diam 45m E-W) enclosed by two earth and stone banks with intervening fosse (Wth 2.5m; ext. D 0.5m). Inner bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.5m) is best preserved while outer bank is poorly preserved especially at S with possible entrance gap (Wth 2m) at E. Overgrown nature of site made examination of outer bank impossible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
