Deer Island is a narrow ribbon of land in the Fergus Estuary, and the fort sits on its highest point like a button on a coat. A low bank, thirty metres across, still marks the circle where a house stood before the pasture swallowed the rest. The fairies may have taken the walls, but they left the shape behind, proud and visible from the water.

On a small plateau at the top of a low rise in pasture towards the centre of Inishmore or Deer Island in the Fergus Estuary. A circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) defined by a low bank visible on Digital Globe (2011-2013) and OSi MapGenie (2013-2018) orthophotos. Noted by Hugh Carey.
