Enclosure in Coney Island

On a small island in mudflats at the SW end of Coney Island in the Fergus Estuary. A small circular enclosure (diam. c. 7m) defined by a stone wall is visible only on Digital Globe (2011-2013). Noted by Hugh Carey. The area was not under water when depicted on the OS 6-inch maps. A small, likely early-medieval ringfort on a tidal island in the Fergus Estuary, visible only in satellite imagery. Local folklore associates such sites with fairy dwellings, and they were often avoided for fear of disturbing otherworldly inhabitants.
