Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Graigues (connello Lower By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

A hidden earthen ringfort lies beneath rough pasture in Graigues, its circular bank now clipped and buried by later field walls. The site measures twenty-six metres across, preserving a level interior where human life once unfolded before agriculture rearranged the land. What appears as an ordinary pasture break may still hold the shape of a forgotten home, waiting beneath grass and stone.
In rough pasture, on break in N-facing slope. Circular area (26.7m N-S; 26m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.35m). Bank, best preserved NW->ENE, is incorporated into field boundary system ENE->SSE where dry-stone field wall runs along top. Bank is clipped by linear field wall WSW->NW. Level interior under rough pasture. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
