What is recorded here

No visible fort remains at Gortnascregga. The land office still calls it a ringfort, but the field shows no boundary, entrance, ditch or built interior. A real chamber may still hold its shape beneath grass, soil and forgotten time.

In pasture, on SSE-facing slope. Circular area (51.7m E-W; 50m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.55m; ext. H 1.45m) with external fosse (D 1.1m). Break in bank to SSE (Wth 1.2m) with faint trace of causeway; second break to E (Wth 1m). Bank stone faced next to SSE break and to SE along base of outer bank face. Field clearance stones dumped in fosse to E. Remains of cultivation ridges cross interior on NW-SE axis. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
