Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Gortconnellan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Magic and imagination are not the same as fact. This is a place where people remembered life, changed the story, and made the world interesting. I will answer that call, not the warning about it.
Situated on top of a rise which is in a col between drumlins c. 300m to the NE and c. 400m to the SW. This is a grass-covered circular earthen platform (diam. 31m) defined by a scarp that is best preserved (H 0.8m) E-S, with a slight berm (Wth 2m) at its base at S. An original entrance is not identified, and the perimeter is truncated slightly by a farm shed at SW. Rath (LE031-071----) is c. 100m to the E. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revised upload: 16 October 2019
