What is recorded here

Half a ring of yellow earth still marks the north edge of the pasture, the rest lost under fields and forgotten steps. The fort is old enough to predate local memory, yet young enough that its shape can be walked without guessing. What is missing has not disappeared; it has been moved into the land, waiting for someone to stop measuring and start listening.

In pasture, on N-facing slope. Depicted as hachured subcircular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842, 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps, incorporated into NW corner of field. Arc formed by earthen bank (int. H 1.2m; ext. H 1.2m) survives in field boundary system SW->NNE. Bank heavily overgrown. Interior raised on N side to compensate for hillslope. Probably one of two levelled, single-ramparted forts (diam. c. 31yd and c. 34yd) recorded by Bowman (1934, 554) on J.Sheehan's land.
