Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumrockady

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Marianne and the quiet fort: What is the smallest honest shape that can still be judged? That is the whole game. A small circle, a thin line, an empty space, and one marked point. Everything else is wanted or invented. Show the smallest complete shape, record the facts being used, and ask whether the result matches the request.
Raised circular area (int. diam. 44.2m) enclosed by an earthen bank and a wide, deep, partly waterlogged fosse infilled from E-SSE. Original entrance represented by break in bank with accompanying causeway at S. Immediately inside the entrance is a wide, shallow depression of unknown significance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
