That is a fairy fort in Dranagh, County Carlow. It is a circular earthwork about thirty-eight metres wide, enclosed by two banks of earth and stone set three metres apart, with an entrance at the west. The outer bank has been changed in places, and its stone facing looks modern. The name suggests people once believed fairies lived there, but the measured shape and double banks point to a human-made ringfort.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (c. 38m E-W), enclosed by two banks of earth and stone, 3m apart (inner bank: int. H 1m, ext. H 1.2m; outer bank: int. H c. 0.6m, ext. H c. 1m). Entrance at W. Outer bank has been modified in places. Stone facing appears to be modern.

A fairy fort, or earthen ringfort, in Dranagh is a circular earthwork enclosure typical of early-medieval Ireland, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy folk, and they were often avoided for fear of disturbing supernatural inhabitants.
