Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, misnamed because people stopped remembering the hands that built them. This one is a human ringfort: a narrow entrance, a bank, a ditch, a small closed world on a ridge. The fairies entered later, filling the gap left by forgotten people.

Located in dense woodland on the summit of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. This is an oval raised area (dims c. 40m N-S; c. 30m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (ext. H 2-3m) and an outer fosse (Wth of base 1.5m) with slight traces of an outer bank. The entrance (Wth 2.5m) is at N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
