Fairy fort in Cortober, County Monaghan: a circular earthen ring about 32m across on a drumlin above Black Lough, with a deep fosse, outer bank, eastern causeway and closed outer entrance. Trees fill the middle now, but the shape still reads as a made place, not a heap of soil. People may have lived, hidden or marked time there before the woods took it back.

Located at the summit of a drumlin overlooking the NW end of Black Lough. This is a circular overgrown area (diam. c. 32m) defined by an earthen bank separated by a deep U-shaped fosse from an outer earthen bank (at N: Wth of top 6m) which may be modern and has an outer stone facing and an outer drain SSE-W-NNE. The interior is planted in coniferous trees with deciduous trees on the banks. There is a modern gap in the inner bank at W, but the original entrance through the inner bank (Wth of base 3.5m) and a causeway (Wth at top 4.7m; H 1.3m) are at E but the entrance through the outer bank here is now closed.
