Depicted as a wooded promontory (max. dims c. 50m NW-SE; c. 30m NE-SW) on the SE shore of the S oval part (dims c. 540m NE-SW; c. 220m NW-SE at NE) of Black Lough on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map, and surrounded by marshy land in woodland. It proved impossible to inspect this monument. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
