Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Corrinshigo (clankee By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Thirty years of storms cannot erase the memory of a threshold, yet the entrance has vanished entirely. The fort stands as a broken circle, its bank surrendered to ploughs and drainage, while the deep fosse still cuts through the field like a wound that refuses to close. What was hidden has been exposed. What was known has been forgotten. The land remembers in fragments, not facts.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 29m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a wide, deep fosse which has been modified and incorporated into the field drainage system. The bank has been largely levelled from E-S-SW. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
