Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Corrawaddy

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortons and Sarsfields still point to Corrawaddy as the site where O'Connor and his men vanished during a border campaign. The earthworks remain visible despite later leveling, preserving the shape of a place people still speak about as if it were alive.
Raised circular area (int. diam. 42m) enclosed by two substantial earthen banks with intermediate wide, deep fosse. Outer bank and fosse largely levelled from ENE-E-SSE. Original entrance at SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
