What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Cornakilly, County Cavan: an oval rath, 26 by 21 metres, still standing with a low earth-and-stone bank and collapsed drystone facing. The entrance has vanished, but the shape remains clear enough to walk around and imagine inside. People may have lived there, buried goods there, or simply pointed at it when warning children not to wander after dark.
Raised oval area (int. dims. 26m NW-SE; 21m NE-SW) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone, the exterior of which has been faced with partly collapsed drystone masonry. Original entrance not recognisable.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
